What is a TTRPG?

TTRPG stands for Table-Top Role-Playing Game, the most famous of which is Dungeons and Dragons. In short, a TTRPG is a form of improv theater with a codified set of rules that give guidelines for how to interact with the fictional world (this commonly involves dice). There are two primary roles that a participant can have: The (1) Storyteller and the (~1-5) Player(s).

The Player can be thought of as a “lead actor.” They are playing the part of one of the protagonists of the story, and are thus playing the same character from week to week, as the improv theater follows the cast of the players and their adventures.

The Storyteller is (typically) the facilitator of the group, and is responsible for being the omniscient narrator of the adventures of the players. They play the parts of everybody besides the player characters, from the bit parts, such as the street vendor, to the antagonists or villains standing in the way of the player characters. It's their job to give their players obstacles for them to overcome, whether that be mysteries to solve, enemies to fight, or so, so much more.
